[TV] The CW's Development Head Talks About Arrow Posted by Joseph Lee on 02.10.2012
How will it be different from Smallville?
CW developmental head Thom Sherman recently discussed how the new pilot Arrow is going to be different from the hit show Smallville.
The show is being produced by Greg Berlanti (Everwood), Marc Guggenheim (FlashForward) and Andrew Kreisberg (The Vampire Diaries, Fringe). Stephen Amell will play Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow. Justin Hartley played him on Smallville.
Sherman said: "It's a very provocative and sophisticated and edgy. It's not as comic book-y as Smallville or other [superhero projects] from other networks."
He compared Arrow to Jason Bourne and says his backstory will be revealed over the first episode. He added: "He doesn't have any superpowers, he's a very grounded character like a Jason Bourne — we use the term ‘Rambo'. His skill-set is that he's an archer, but he also have physical strength and prowess. He's clever and able to devise ways of taking down a bad guy that are unique and fun to watch."
